Tea Parties

Today, on tax day, tea parties were held across the country. Do you think that these tea parties make a difference or are they just making the participants feel better?

Brandon Says:
Unfortunately the Tea Parties are really only going to make those participating in them feel better. Obama and others are simply going to ignore them and continue their liberal spending, bankrupting our generations and futures to come.
Amanda Says:
I don’t think President Obama or our leadership in Congress care. I think the media are selling advertising and thats all that matters.
Ellen Says:
Both. But Obama’s no paying attention to anybody but himself. He doesn’t even involve Congress in any decisions because he write Executive Orders. However, I think the idea of the Tea Paties will make people pay attention and get involved. That’s how we lost this past Presidential election. People didn’t get involved.
Aaron Says:
It worked in Boston, right?
Jason Wilder Says:
I hope these rallies will be just a starting point for some national movements. I would love to see a “Million-Man” march at the National Mall. I hope that these are not just about taxes, though. I think it should be about the whole progressive movement. This is no longer Republican vs. Democrat, Right vs. Left, or Conservative vs. Liberal, but it should be about American vs. Un-American. These Liberals, Progressives, Socialists, or whatever you want to call them, are the ones trying to “CHANGE” the country. So if they are trying to change something, then they are against what it already is, American.
Woodie McCarty Says:
I attended a Tea Party today in Florida. I was surprised at how well it was attended, and how consistent the messages were on taxes, spending, illegal immigration, government control, etc. The silent majority has had enough, and they will take action. I expect elected liberal Republicans, Democrats, and those that have ditched fundamental American principles will find the voters taking them out of government with replacement representation that makes sense for the people. If you haven’t attended a Tea Party, you should. This grassroots protest will be gainining momentum and strength with a clear purpose bringing America back to the U.S.Constitution with individual freedom and liberty. Government is out of control at all levels, and the people will put it back in place was a consistent message at the Tea Party.
Nick Says:
I went to 2 tea parties in South Florida today and I thought they were well attended. There were attendees from all over the country with everyone on the same page as far as cutting taxes. I met Republicans, Libertarians, Democrats, and Independents. All were concerned with how our children will be left with this massive debt. This is not a Republican issue. It is an American issue!
If we head down this path much longer, we may not recover.
With respect to the question, no I don’t think these tea parties were helpful. The politicians in Washington have lost touch with reality. We need to show them in November 2010 that they should not have turned their backs on us these last few years.
Barbara Says:
The Tea Parties are an attempt to cut across political labels and return to the center–the center being defined as the United States Constitution. The Republican party has failed its base, Bush expanded entitlements and grew the deficit. His bailouts started Obama off with a huge edge in his socialist agenda.
If the GOP doesn’t heed the true message of the Tea Parties and start responding to the huge mass of disaffected Americans, there will be a more concerted effort to form a viable third party. That may fail, but it will certainly destroy the effectiveness of the Republicans for the next two election cycles.
Yet here in northeast Florida, the local GOP steadfastly refuses to allow RLC or even people they suspect of RLC affiliation to participate. IMO, the GOP has a death wish.
Arthur Manger Says:
I think Mr Wilder is right on the mark. If this movement can be kept out of party politics and stay as an American political movement. Then support will come from both parties. Now this might not be to much of a problem for the Republican party but the Democrat party where the left lives can not allow such a movement to thrive. It would be similar to what happen in east Germany after the communist took control. This Tea party movement is a place where Americans can get together and involved without either party’s constraints. It will be what the left fears most and the attacks against it will be visious.
Jami Says:
The Tea Parties are a way for community members, regardless of party affiliation, to come together for a common purpose in favor of the founding principles of this country. Whats not to like? Besides- Washington can’t vote itself back into office if the rest of America doesn’t want them there…
Andi Says:
This is just the beginning. If we can keep the movement going, we can actually make a difference. When was the last time this many people came out and protested against something? What some people and the media is forgetting is how much We the People love this country. You can say whatever you want about the tea parties, but your not going to squash Patriotism!
Kate Says:
Tea Party goers are voters. Congressional members who voted for TARP,Stimulus, Omnibus, Budget will lose their seats!
Kate Says:
By the way, at 800+ Tea Parties there was no ‘event trash’ on the ground.
No wasted $2 million like at the inauguration.
American taxpayers DO care how their money is spent.
Elly Says:
The Tea Parties are only the begining of an organized patriotic movement against those who put their political agendas, party interests and personal objectives above the best interest of the Country and “we the people”
This movement will continue to grow as fast as our personal liberties are violated and our Constitutional rights are taken away
